Prepare for an awe-inspiring camping and trekking adventure as you kick off your journey at Ohiya Station. Your trek begins on the road leading to the legendary Horton Plains. The initial 4 km follow a surfaced road adorned with towering eucalyptus trees and majestic pines, setting the stage for your epic descent.
Â
Picture this: A winding, cobbled road that could be right out of a postcard descends through a lush tea estate. As you gaze westward, towering cliffs form the borders of Horton Plains, creating a breathtaking backdrop. To the south, the mountains give way to the Sabaragamuwa basin, offering mesmerizing views of the Samanala Reservoir, Kalthota mountain range, and even the distant Udawalawa Reservoir.
Â
As you continue, you’ll pass through a charming village within the West Udaweriya estate. The rustic atmosphere, with its tin roofs and weathered walls, adds to the mountain’s ambience, enhancing your experience.
Â
Your night’s rest will be at a scenic viewpoint known as Weli Wanguwa, or “Sand Bend”. Just 50 meters downhill lies a refreshing bathing hole, ideal for a rejuvenating dip. The next day, you’ll descend into a gorge, where the hidden and enigmatic Lanka Ella waterfall awaits. With a height of approximately 100 feet, this waterfall offers an ideal opportunity for beginners to practice abseiling.
Â
Your trek continues to the base of Bambarakanda, Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfall, where your unforgettable journey concludes.
