“Canyons are like natural cathedrals, towering above us in majestic splendor.”

Canyoning, also known as canyoneering is the best way to get up close and personal and explore a canyon. It’s a popular sport among adrenaline junkies and nature lo vers alike.
Canyoning as a sport is mostly done around the upper parts of a mountain stream before it hits flat terrain. Half the fun of canyoning comes from navigating down fast-flowing water streams using techniques like swimming, sliding, abseiling, and even jumping into rock pools.
As the best canyons are usually hidden deep within jungles, canyoning usually starts off with a nice energetic hike that will warm you up and get you acclimatized to the environment. After reaching the upper parts of the stream, you will follow the flow of water to the endpoint, as it cascades down the mountain.
Canyoning is one of the favourite adventure sports of Ceylon Extreme Adventures, as most of our guides started off their careers as qualified canyoning and whitewater rafting guides in Kithulgala, a little town well known for its rapids and many surrounding canyons.

The tropical island of Sri Lanka has a mountainous heart, out of which flow over a hundred rivers that empty their waters into the Indian Ocean. Over thousands of tributaries feed these rivers, meaning over a thousand canyons to pick from, ranging in navigability from beginner to e xperienced, to ha rdcore! So why canyoning in Sri Lanka? Because it’s a canyoning buffet!
As the only adventure sports company in Sri Lanka that isn’t based around a single location, Ceylon Extreme Adventures is best suited to guide you down a variety of canyons all over the heart of Sri Lanka.
